Bearing design characteristic

Dear Readers,

Basic design characteristic of bearings are as Follows.

1) Deep groove ball bearings (Grooves in both Inner & Outer Rings) :
It Carries
    Radial Load
    Axial Load
    Radial & Axial load simultaneous 

2) Self-Aligning ball bearings (Spherical bearings) :
It Carries
    Radial load
    Self aligning ball bearings have particularly low friction
   Self aligning ball bearings permit minor angular misalignment of the shaft relative to the housing

3).  Angular Contact Ball Bearing ( The load is carried over from one ring to the other at an angle) :
It Carries
    Radial Load
    Radial & Axial load simultaneous
    Suitable for high speeds

4) Cylindrical Roller Bearing :
It Carries
    Radial Load
    Suitable for Heavy Radial Loads and High Speeds


5) Spherical Roller Bearing (Can to some extent compensate misalignment between shaft & Housing) :

It Carries
    Radial Load
    Axial Load
    Radial & Axial load simultaneous
    Suitable for high speeds and high loads


6) Tapper Roller Bearing :
It Carries
    Radial Load
    Radial & Axial
    Axial Load Reverse

7) Needle Roller Bearing :
It Carries
    Radial Load

Code for Bearing Types

Dear Readers,
 
This is in continuation with my earlier posts of Bearings. Prefixes are used to identify components of a bearing and are usually then followed by the designation of the complete bearing, or to avoid confusion with other bearing designations.
 
Below table shows the details
The bearings can also have a C2, C3, C4 or C5 designation after the bearing number. This indicates that the internal fit (the inner race to ball to outer race) is not standard. If your bearing has one of these designators, make sure you get a bearing with the same designator. Please note that a C2 is less than standard clearance, while a C3, C4, and C5 are larger than standard

Bearings Identification

Dear Readers,
 
This is continuation with my earlier posts of Bearings. Now discuss about the bearings identification
 A bearing number has four parts to it which includes four numbers and a set of letters. Each of the first two numbers stand for something, the last two designate size. The letters dictate the variation of the bearing. These letters can also be followed by more letters designating internal clearance. In detail:
 First number (will be a 0-8) designates the bearing type:
 0 = Double row angular contact ball bearings
 1 = Self-aligning ball bearings
 2 = Spherical roller bearings, spherical roller thrust bearings
 3 = Tapered roller bearings
 4 = Double row deep groove ball bearings
 5 = Thrust ball bearings
 6 = Single row deep groove ball bearings
 7 = Single row angular contact ball bearings
 8 = Cylindrical roller thrust bearings
The second number designates the series, or cross section. This is basically equivalent to the second number of a tire rating, it's a ratio of the bore to the width of the bearing, which also controls the O.D. of the bearing. The larger the cross section, the larger the O.D. of the bearing.
 
 18 = Thin Section, Light
 19 = Thin Section, Medium
 0 = Very Light
 2 = Light
 3 = Medium
 4 = Heavy
The third number (which is a set of two numbers) indicates the bore (in mm) of the bearings. All bearings are designated with metric standards, not inches. Numbers are as follows:
 
00 = 10 mm
01 = 12 mm
02 = 15 mm
03 = 17 mm
 
For 20-480mm bore bearings: Last 2 digits x 5 = Bore (mm)
i.e.- if the bearing number was 04 (04 x 5 = 20 mm), 05 (05 x 5 = 25 mm)
The letters after the number indicate the variation. These change from manufacturer to manufacturer, but here are some of the common ones:
 
Plain -- No Shield
Type Z -- One Shield (normally will have metal shields)
Type 2Z -- Two Shields (one on each side)
Type RS1 -- One Seal (normally the R indicates rubber)
Type 2RS1 --Two Seals (one on each side)

Bearing Designations

Dear Readers,

As you well aware that bearing is a device that supports, guides, and reduces the friction of motion between fixed and moving machine parts. All standard bearings have a characteristic basic designation it consist of basic numbers and supplementary symbols (Prefix and Suffix). If you know the observation of bearing number you may proceed further without any delay of your activity / job. You know prefix and suffix details then it is an excellent.  
The first digit (or letter) designates the bearing type, the second and third digits indicate the dimension series to which the bearing belongs. The second digit represents the width (or height) series and the third digit the diameter series. The three first digits together designate the bearing series.
The two last digits indicate the bore diameter. For bearing with bore diameter between 20 and 490 mm is obtained by multiplying the two last digits by five. For bearing with bore diameter greater than 490mm the bore diameter is directly indicated after an oblique (Ex.511 / 500). Special coding applies for bearings with bore diameter less than 20mm.

Engineer dairy is very much proud to publish this article during the Engineer Day. Bearing is one of the wonderful engineering innovation in this world and it is biggest mile stone of engineering industry. Any rotation parts with out bearing is un-imaginable. From children's toys, household utilities to aeroplane and space equipment everywhere bearings are involved.
 
Bearing is a device that supports, guides, and reduces the friction of motion between fixed and moving machine parts. Bearing is primarily used in between rotation parts. The main function of rotation part is transmit power from one end to another end. For transmitting power, it needs a good support to ensure stability and frictionless rotation. The support is known as “bearing”.
 
The bearings are classified in to two main category. One is plain or Slider bearing, another one is Rolling or Anti friction bearing. Under this main category there are numerous different kind of bearings that are designed to handle radial load, thrust load or combination of the two loads.
 
Sliding Bearing. It is a simple plain bearing, it is classified in to Journal bearing, Footstep bearing and collar thrust bearing.
 
Ball and Roller Bearing. These are known as anti-friction bearings, widely used in industries. It is further classified as follows
 
Ball bearings (Self-aligning ball bearings, Double row angular contact ball bearings, Double row deep groove ball bearings, Single row deep groove ball bearings, Single row angular contact ball bearings & Four-point contact ball bearings)

Roller bearing (Spherical roller bearings, Tapered roller bearings, Cylindrical roller bearings, Needle roller bearings)
 
Thrust Bearing (Cylindrical roller thrust bearings, spherical roller thrust bearings, Thrust ball bearings)
