Unit Weight of Parallel Flanged Channel

Parallel flange channels are more commonly known as PFC or C-section. A PFC is a vital part of the structural steels used in the construction of buildings and large-scale steel fabrications.

The Parallel Flange Channel is praised for its ability to provide increased strength and durability to steel projects. Typically used as columns or as support for floor joists and have a highly desirable load bearing profile. You may also find PFCs used in conjunction with RSJ steel beams, universal columns and all forms of structural steel.

Unit Weight of parallel flanged Channel is as follows

Above table is as per AS/NZS3679.1-300

Unit Weight of Chinese Channel

Dear Readers,

Generally Chinese Steel Grades Q195, Q215, Q235, Q255 and Q275 are used for Structural works. steel grades by the yield point of the letter on behalf of (Q) and yield point value is mentioned and sub grade A, B, C & D are used for further classification. For Example Q235A means, it is a carbon steel and yield strength is 235 Mpa

For Steel section Channel is mentioned as "C"; Angles are mentioned as "L" and Beams are mentioned as “I “or “H " followed by number. To find out the size of section is number multiple by 10 is the size of member.

For Example C16 means Channel 160 mm depth. Similarly H10 means H section 100 mm depth.

If the same size but width or Flange size is different then suffix a, b, c is shown. For example C20a & C20b, Both are 200 Channel however flange is 73 and 75 mm respectively. C20a means Channel 200 X 73 and C20b means Channel 200 X 75.

Unit Weight of Chinese standard Channel is as below.

Properties of ISLC

Dear Readers,

This is continuation with my earlier post unit weight of ISLC, self would like to post the sectional properties of ISLC.

Properties of beams are having two parts. One part is Physical dimensions and another part is sectional properties of Beam. Basically dimensional part contains depth and width of section, Thickness of Web and Flange and Root Radius. Where as sectional properties contains Moment of Inertia, Radius of Gyration and Section Modulus. These are useful for design engineers.

Unit Weight of ISMCP

Dear Readers,
Wish You a Happy Engineer Day-2012

In continuation with my earlier post of ISMC, Let us discuss about ISMCP (Indian Standard Medium Weight parallel Flanged Channel)

This is one of the standardized categories of hot-rolled steel Channel section. This is same as medium weight channel, all dimensions are same as medium weight channel However radius of channel flange is varying . It is parallel flange rather than a tapered flange.

It is also identified as a PFC (Parallel Flange Channel). It is designated as web size and flange size with prefix of MCP and having sizes from 75mm to 400mm. Example is MCP 300 X 84, where 300 is web size and 84 is flange size.

Unit Weight of ISJC

Indian Standard Junior Channel

In continuation with my earlier post of ISMC & ISLC this is also one of the standardized categories of hot-rolled steel Cahnnel section.

This is tapered flange Channel and it is having limited sizes from 100mm to 200mm. It is similar to ISMC & ISLC, however the thickness of Web & Flange is lesser then ISMC.

1. ISJC 200 X 70 - 13.90
2. ISJC 175 X 60 - 11.20
3. ISJC 150 X 55 - 9.90
4. ISJC 125 X 50 - 7.90
5. ISJC 100 X 45 - 5.80

UNIT WEIGHT OF ISMC

Some times during our Execution,  we suppose encounter the odd size sections like ISMC 250 X 82. We will execute the job but will be claimed ISMC 250 X 80 weight. Self had a same experience in my early days. To avoid this by others self listed the section weight of Channels below

                                                       1) ISMC 75 X 40 -7.14
2) ISMC 100 X 50-9.56
3) ISMC 125 X 65-13.10
4) ISMC 125 X 66-13.70
5) ISMC 150 X 75-16.80
6) ISMC 150 X 76-17.70
7) ISMC 175 X 75-19.60
8) ISMC 175 X 77-21.70
9) ISMC 200 X 75-22.30

10) ISMC 200 X 76-24.30
11) ISMC 225 X 80-26.10
12) ISMC 225 X 83-30.70
13) ISMC 250 X 80-30.60
14) ISMC 250 X 82-34.60
15) ISMC 250 X 84-38.10
16) ISMC 300 X 90-36.30
17) ISMC 300 X 92-41.50
18) ISMC 300 X 94-46.20
19) ISMC 350 X100-42.70
20) ISMC 400 X 100-50.10
