Unit Weight of Square Steel Bar

Dear Readers,

Square steel bars are used in construction industry for making gratings and barricading works. Job finishing will be good since it is available as a readymade. Alternatively we can cut from plates to make square bar. However it is not economical and wastage will be more, as well as finishing will not meet the requirement. Hence readymade square bar is advisable. It is measured by length in meters and weight is mentioned Kg per Meter. Unit Weight of Square Steel Bar is below.

Unit Weight of Steel Flat

Dear Readers,
Steel is important role in construction Industry. Flats are used in construction industry for very economic and good finish. Instead of cutting required size from plates and sheets we can use ready made flats. Generally the width to thickness ratio of flat rolled products is fairly large.

The flat carbon steel is a hot or cold rolled strip product also known as a plate product. Flats are actually thin strips of mild steel having the thickness of the strip commonly varying between 12 mm to 150 mm and thickness varies from 3 mm to 32 mm. Flats are designated by width and thickness, Example Flat 100 X 6 means flat 100 mm width and thickness is 6 mm.

Various grades and sizes of materials can be selected to meet diversified requirements for automobiles, appliances, construction etc., Unit weight of flat steel is below. All dimensions are in mm and weight is Kg/Mtr

Unit Weight of Hexagonal Steel Bar

Dear Readers
In geometry, any polygon with six sides and six angles and six vertices is called as Hexagon. A Hexagon having all sides of equal length and equal angles is called regular Hexagon. Each interior angle of any regular Hexagon is equal. It is used in industrial for various purpose.

It is used for popularly for making nuts. The size is always measured Across the flat. It is denoted as size (A/F). Refer Picture.

Please refer Unit weigt of Hexoganal steel bar is below chart. All weights are Kg per Meter. Sizes will be measured as per the above picture.

Unit Weight of Chinese I Beam

Dear Readers,

For Chinese Steel section Beams are mentioned as “I “or “H " followed by number. To find out the size of section is, shown number multiple by 10 is the size of member.

For Example I20 means I section 200 mm depth. Simultaneously the beam sizes are same but width or flange size is different then suffix a, b, c is shown.

For example I20a & I20b, both are 200 beam. However width of flange is 100 and 102 mm respectively, also thickness of web also changes. While designating the beam Depth and width only mentioned. I20a means Beam 200 X 100 and I20b means Beam 200 X 102. Unit Weight of I Beam section is below.

Generally Chinese Steel Grades are Q195, Q215, Q235, Q255 and Q275 is used for Structural works. steel grades by the yield point of the letter on behalf of (Q) and yield point value is mentioned and sub grade A, B, C & D are used for further classification. For Example Q235A means, it is a carbon steel and having maximum yield strength of 235 Mpa.

Unit Weight of Chinese Channel

Dear Readers,

Generally Chinese Steel Grades Q195, Q215, Q235, Q255 and Q275 are used for Structural works. steel grades by the yield point of the letter on behalf of (Q) and yield point value is mentioned and sub grade A, B, C & D are used for further classification. For Example Q235A means, it is a carbon steel and yield strength is 235 Mpa

For Steel section Channel is mentioned as "C"; Angles are mentioned as "L" and Beams are mentioned as “I “or “H " followed by number. To find out the size of section is number multiple by 10 is the size of member.

For Example C16 means Channel 160 mm depth. Similarly H10 means H section 100 mm depth.

If the same size but width or Flange size is different then suffix a, b, c is shown. For example C20a & C20b, Both are 200 Channel however flange is 73 and 75 mm respectively. C20a means Channel 200 X 73 and C20b means Channel 200 X 75.

Unit Weight of Chinese standard Channel is as below.

Properties of ISLC

Dear Readers,

This is continuation with my earlier post unit weight of ISLC, self would like to post the sectional properties of ISLC.

Properties of beams are having two parts. One part is Physical dimensions and another part is sectional properties of Beam. Basically dimensional part contains depth and width of section, Thickness of Web and Flange and Root Radius. Where as sectional properties contains Moment of Inertia, Radius of Gyration and Section Modulus. These are useful for design engineers.

Unit Weight of Slit Tee

In continuation with my earlier post let us discuss about Slit Tee. It is similar to ISNT by the shape, However Slit tees are made by splitting a beam down the web yielding a pairs of Tee.

ISMT’s are slit from ISMB (Medium Weight Beams) and ISHT’s are slit from ISHB.Based on the requirement it is cut from universal Beam and universal column.

Slit Tee Bars are classified as per IS 1173: 1978.Unit Weights of Slit Tee's are below.

Elliptical Hollow Section (EHS)

Dear Readers, Wish you a Happy Mayday.

In recent years Elliptical hollow sections (EHS) have emerged to the hot-finished product range for tubular construction.

It is relatively new shape of high strength and it is attracted significant attention from engineers and architects owing to their complementary qualities of aesthetic appearance and structural efficiency. The distinctive varying curvature around the section is not only aesthetically appealing but also offers differing flexural rigidities about the two principal axes and high torsional stiffness. This cross-section creates an interesting alternative for engineers and architects in a broad range of design applications. It is also called Ellipcon section. They come in two shapes

1. Ellipcon section (Is an Ellipse)
2. Semi Ellipcon section (Half of an ellipse / D-Shape)

Both shapes are given the structure very outstanding architectural looks and the section having much structural advantage as it is like hollow section. Some of the advantages are listed below
• These Ellipcon sections are good alternate to traditional sections and they have all structural properties similar to hot hollow sections
• EHS (Elliptical Hollow Section) have greater bending capacity than the CHS (Circular Hollow Section) of the same area / Weight

• For structures with limited space these new section might provide design solution and increasing the open floor area

• For Non-Symmetric load situations this section would be more cost effective

The Ellipcon sections have constant external dimension with in the same size only thickness is increasing. EHS are generally produced with major to minor outside dimensions of 2:1
It is designated as Width X Height X Thickness, Weight is measured Kg/meter. Unit Weight of both sections will be followed my next post

Flat

The flat carbon steel is a hot or cold rolled strip product also known as a plate product. Flats are actually thin strips of mild steel having the thickness of the strip commonly varying between 10mm to 200mm and the thin flat rolled flat rolled product's size varies from 3 mm to 10 mm.

Steel flats are produced by the utilization of relatively smooth, cylindrical rolls on rolling mills. Generally the width to thickness ratio of flat rolled products is fairly large. Various grades and sizes of materials can be selected to meet diversified requirements for automobiles, appliances, construction etc.,

Flats are designated by Width and Thickness. For Example 100mm width and 6 mm thickness is designated as " FLAT 100X6". Unit Weight of Flats will be followed on my next post
