ISMB UNIT WEIGHT

Dear Readers,

ISMB - Indian Standard Medium Weight Beam. This weight chart is republished here. It has been a popular post of this blog. However it is necessary to update the table for more information like dimensions of Web and Flange including thickness apart from unit weight.

Beam cross section looks like a English letter I or H. It is a Hot rolled Steel, The horizontal element is called flanges, while the vertical element is called web and it is a Hot rolled steel

Properties of ISHB

Dear Readers,

This is continuation with my earlier post unit weight of ISHB, self would like to post the sectional properties of ISHB. My earlier post, Unit weight of ISMB has been one of the popular posts. In the same way, I am expecting this post would be a next popular post and also helpful to all engineers.

Properties of beams are having two parts. One part is Physical dimensions and another part is sectional properties of Beam. Basically dimensional part contains depth and width of section, Thickness of Web and Flange and Root Radius. Where as sectional properties contains Moment of Inertia, Radius of Gyration and Section Modulus. These are useful for design engineers.

Unit Weight of ISMCP

Dear Readers,
Wish You a Happy Engineer Day-2012

In continuation with my earlier post of ISMC, Let us discuss about ISMCP (Indian Standard Medium Weight parallel Flanged Channel)

This is one of the standardized categories of hot-rolled steel Channel section. This is same as medium weight channel, all dimensions are same as medium weight channel However radius of channel flange is varying . It is parallel flange rather than a tapered flange.

It is also identified as a PFC (Parallel Flange Channel). It is designated as web size and flange size with prefix of MCP and having sizes from 75mm to 400mm. Example is MCP 300 X 84, where 300 is web size and 84 is flange size.

Unit Weight of Slit Tee

In continuation with my earlier post let us discuss about Slit Tee. It is similar to ISNT by the shape, However Slit tees are made by splitting a beam down the web yielding a pairs of Tee.

ISMT’s are slit from ISMB (Medium Weight Beams) and ISHT’s are slit from ISHB.Based on the requirement it is cut from universal Beam and universal column.

Slit Tee Bars are classified as per IS 1173: 1978.Unit Weights of Slit Tee's are below.

Dear Readers, Wish You A Happy New Year

New Year is a time for celebration
of love, of life, of Friendship.
Therefore, it is the time to thank God
for the wonderful friends,
and to bring to their lives
as much magic as they bring to ours.
Have a happy and a memorable holiday!
I Wish U that your all dreams comes True..
*HAPPY NEW YEAR 2012*

This is in continuation with my previous posts of Hot Rolled sections. You may familiar with my previous posts like ISJB, ISLB, ISMB, ISWB, ISHB & ISSC. Self felt if all beams weights are made available one table it will be use full to all . The result of the thought is below mentioned Table.

Hope this is very handy table. Please send your feed back to  engineerdiary@gmail.com

Unit Weight of ISHB

Indian Standard Heavy Weight Beams / Columns

In continuation with my earlier posts ISMB, ISJB, ISLB & ISWB this is also one of the standardized categories of hot-rolled steel, having a shape whose cross section resembles the letter H.

It is having the sizes from 150 to 450mm. Usually they are heavier sections. It is available in two weights (Type-I & Type-II). Please refer the table below.
In addition to above ISHB 150 X 150 is available for unit weight of 27.1kg Web thickness is further lesser than type-II

For Type-I & II, these heavier beam sections in each size are obtained from the same set of rolls. The width of flanges and Height of Beams are same , However the difference is between the thicknesses of the webs. Therefore, while ordering these heavier sections, mass should be mentioned. Please note that ISHB sections are also used as column sections.

Classification of Hot Rolled Steel (IS 808: 1989)

In India, the Structural Steel sections produced including open section such as Beams, Columns, Channels and angles are designated in a standard manner with the letters IS indicating Indian Standard Specifications followed by the letter indicating the classification and type of section and a number indicating the size of section. Usually depth of section is chosen to indicate its size.

The Classifications Hot rolled steels are as follows

1.    Beams

1.1.Indian Standard junior beams (ISJB)

1.2.Indian Standard light weight beams (ISLB)

1.3.Indian Standard medium weight beams (ISMB)

1.4.Indian Standard wide flange beams (ISWB)

2.    Columns

2.1.Indian Standard column sections (ISSC)

2.2.Indian Standard heavy weight beam (ISHB)

3.    Channels

3.1.Indian Standard junior channels (ISJC)

3.2.Indian Standard light weight channels (ISLC)

3.3.Indian Standard medium weight channels (ISMC)

3.4. Indian Standard mediumweight parallel flange channels (ISMCP)

4.    Angles

4.1.Indian Standard equal leg angles (ISA)

4.2.Indian Standard unequal leg angles (ISA)
